My name is Eric Miller. I am a piano technician, musician, educator, and lover of musical instruments living in the driftless region of Wisconsin. I am on a mission to help people enjoy playing music as a part of their daily lives!
I want to help you make your piano sound and perform as beautifully as possible! A well tuned and regulated acoustic piano invites one to sit and play, exercising the mind, the body, and spirit as beautiful tone fills the home.
I recently moved to Viroqua, WI and began tuning pianos at the beginning of 2025 as an augmentation to a nearly 20 year career as a concert artist and music educator and am loving every minute of it! My primary mentor in tuning and maintenance has been Bill Bremmer, RPT, of Madison.
My first experience with a piano was in childhood. I grew up making forts and pretend vehicles out of an old upright piano we had. Because it was a big ornate player piano with the guts removed, I was able to open doors and look inside at all the parts and let my imagination run wild. I did eventually learn where the notes were, too, and played it for many hours teaching myself music theory during high school.
Additionally, I have an active career teaching music to all ages and performing in many contexts. Find out more about my teaching and performing activities here. Because of my performing career, I have high ideals for what is possible with a fine musical instrument. Because of my teaching experience, I deeply value being of service to others in fulfilling their musical goals, from all backgrounds and with whatever instrument they have.
I am married to a wonderful pianist and educator, Sue Ellen Dubbert, who brought her beautiful Mason & Hamlin grand into our life. I remember the first time I played it, falling in love with its deep tone which I hadn't experienced on a piano before. I've enjoyed hearing, playing, and now tuning and regulating that piano ever since!
I love music of all eras. As a performer, I've specialized in historical music from the renaissance and baroque, but love classical music and jazz from every era. I care deeply about the endless variety of musical sound in the world and am always excited to encounter a new instrument. Over the years, I have also occasionally taken care of harpsichords for colleagues and friends. My first taste of tuning was in setting historical temperaments by ear on the harpsichord.
I tune pianos in equal temperament, but for the adventurous, we can discuss historical temperaments!
